George Athansios, DMD

Dr. George Athansios earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine, formerly UMDNJ, and practiced as a general dentist for 14 years before pursuing advanced specialty training in periodontics at Rutgers. His commitment to lifelong learning and clinical excellence has shaped a career focused on comprehensive, evidence-based patient care.

Dr. Athansios is a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD), a Fellow of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (FAAID), and a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral Implantology. He is also an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the American Dental Association, and the New Jersey Dental Association.

A respected leader within organized dentistry, Dr. Athansios previously served as President of the Essex County Dental Society and currently serves as a Trustee for the New Jersey Dental Association. His dedication to advancing the profession reflects his passion for mentorship, collaboration, and elevating standards of patient care throughout the dental community.

Known for his compassionate approach and strong communication skills, Dr. Athansios strives to create a comfortable and positive experience for every patient. He believes in building lasting relationships through trust, education, and personalized treatment tailored to each patient’s needs.

Dr. Athansios’ enthusiasm for dentistry extends beyond patient care and into education and mentorship. He is actively involved in teaching at the Rutgers MaxiCourse, where he serves as Co-Program Director alongside internationally recognized implant educator Dr. Shankar Iyer. His passion for continuing education and commitment to mentoring fellow clinicians reflect his dedication to advancing the field of dentistry and implantology.

Outside the office, Dr. Athansios remains deeply committed to service and community outreach. He proudly volunteers as a firefighter with the Cedar Grove Fire Department and has participated in numerous international dental mission trips providing care to underserved communities in Bolivia, Guatemala, Thailand, Egypt, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
