Reasons to Get an Orthodontic Treatment

A lot of people have unbalanced or crooked teeth. Some people have front teeth that are a bit sunk and appear unattractive. The misalignment of the upper and lower jaw results in an unappealing appearance and an improper bite. When your teeth are not aligned correctly, they put pressure on your jaw muscles, which can cause joint and jaw problems and even headaches. Orthodontics near you can help return your teeth to the proper alignment and decrease the strain on your jaw.

Orthodontic Treatment for All Ages

Orthodontics for Children in Flanders, NJ

The earlier you bring your child in to see our orthodontist in Flanders, the more beneficial it will be for them in the long run. Early orthodontic visits allow us to discover potential developmental issues your child could face. This allows us to help address them immediately rather than waiting until they are a teen. The American Association of Orthodontists advise scheduling your child's first orthodontic check-up by age seven.

Early treatment allows your orthodontist to:

  • Create more space for crowded teeth
  • Correct and guide the growth of your children's jaw to support the permanent teeth that come in straight.

Benefits of Orthodontic Treatment for Children

  • Helps children with developmental and appearance concerns
  • Improved speech patterns and the ability to talk clearly
  • Tracks jaw growth and aid in its proper development
  • Fixes current issues like overcrowded and crooked teeth
  • Makes eating various kinds of foods easier

Orthodontics for Teens in Flanders

Get ready to dive into everything you need about orthodontics - braces, retainers, and more! You’ve just heard the three words every teen fears: “YOU NEED BRACES!”

The teenage years can be difficult, particularly with the pressure to appear flawless. Having a gorgeous smile can boost confidence for an anxious teenager and will enhance their oral health for the years to come.

Orthodontic Treatment as a Teenager

Length of Treatment

The usual length of treatment ranges between 18 and 30 months. Depending on how extensive the treatment is, it may take longer.

Process of Getting Braces

Our orthodontist, Dr. Kim and Dr. Finn will develop a detailed plan that will outline how long you will require braces and post-treatment care. We also provide Invisalign for teens with specific orthodontic problems.

For braces, our orthodontist near you will clean your teenager's teeth, and then attach the brackets using bonding glue. Wires will be placed to connect the brackets and will be held in place by rubber bands. The patient will have to visit Dr. Kim or Dr. Finn for check-ups and braces adjustment.

Orthodontics for Adults

Contrary to popular belief, adults can also benefit from orthodontic treatment. There is no reason to let age stand between you and the smile you’ve always dreamed of. In fact, it is not usual for our teeth to move around as we age, which can be all the reason more to seek orthodontic treatment

Few of the most common scenarios where Orthodontic treatment may be considered for adults include:

  • Bad bite or malocclusion, causing teeth to fit together incorrectly
  • Deep bites
  • Overbites or underbites
  • Abnormal jaw pain
  • Excessive space between teeth
  • Alignment of teeth prior to the placement of crowns, dentures, veneers, or implants

Start your journey towards a cheerful smile today and book your consultation with our expert and friendly team of orthodontists in Flanders.

GBT AirFlow – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)?

Guided Biofilm Therapy is a modern dental hygiene protocol that focuses on removing biofilm (bacterial plaque) in a gentle, efficient, and highly effective way using specialized technology such as AIRFLOW®, PERIOFLOW®, and PIEZON® instrumentation.

What is AIRFLOW®?

AIRFLOW® is an advanced device that uses a combination of warm water, air, and ultrafine powder (erythritol or glycine) to remove biofilm, stains, and soft deposits from teeth, implants, and gum pockets—without scraping.

How is GBT with AIRFLOW® different from a regular dental cleaning?

Traditional cleanings rely heavily on hand instruments and ultrasonic scalers.GBT/AIRFLOW®:

  • Targets biofilm first
  • Uses a gentle, warm spray instead of scraping
  • It is more comfortable, especially for sensitive patients
  • Reaches deeper into pockets and around implants
  • Reduces the need for manual scaling
Is AIRFLOW® safe for patients with sensitive teeth or gums?

Yes. The warm-water technology and fine powders make it much less abrasive than traditional methods. Many patients report no sensitivity during treatment.

Is AIRFLOW® safe for dental implants, crowns, and bridges?

Absolutely. GBT is designed to safely clean around implants (peri-implantitis prevention), ceramic crowns, veneers, bridges, and orthodontic brackets, without damaging surfaces.

Does GBT replace traditional scaling completely?

Often, yes—but not always.
Most soft deposits and biofilm are removed using AIRFLOW®.
If calculus (tartar) remains, the clinician uses PIEZON® PS ultrasonic tips, which are more conservative and comfortable than traditional scalers.

What powder is used in AIRFLOW®?

Most commonly:
Erythritol (14 μm) → very gentle, safe for all surfaces
Glycine (25 μm) → often used for periodontal pockets
Both powders are much finer and less abrasive than baking soda.

Who is a good candidate for GBT?
  • Patients with sensitive gums
  • Orthodontic patients
  • Implant patients
  • Periodontal maintenance patients
  • Children and teens
  • Patients who prefer a more comfortable cleaning
Does GBT hurt?

Generally no. AIRFLOW® is warm, gentle, and significantly more comfortable than traditional scraping. Most patients prefer it after trying it once.

Is AIRFLOW® messy?

New-generation AIRFLOW® devices use controlled warm water and fine powder—much cleaner than older polishing systems. Patients generally describe it as clean and refreshing.

Is GBT safe for patients with respiratory conditions?

Yes. The powder is ultrafine, and devices include high-efficiency suction systems. However, patients with severe respiratory compromise should discuss with their dentist first.

Is AIRFLOW® good for stain removal?

Very. It removes stains from coffee, tea, wine, and smoking faster and more comfortably than traditional polishing cups.

How often should GBT be performed?

Most patients benefit from GBT at regular 3-, 4-, or 6-month hygiene intervals, depending on their periodontal status.

The people are always friendly. The dentists and dental hygienists are top shelf. They are professional yet keep things light and easy. When I admitted I never have and never will floss they didn’t yell or put me in a time out. They encouraged and kept my teeth clean and cavity free regardless .
